Arsenal want Dutch starlet

van de Beek wanted by Gunners

Arsenal have entered the race to sign Ajax starlet Donny van de Beek, according to a report this morning from the Netherlands. The impressive midfielder, who helped catapult Ajax to Eredivisie glory this season, as well as a Champions League semi-final, has played close to 100 games for the Amsterdam side.

With 5 caps to his name, van de Beek is already considered an important member of the Dutch national team squad and at the age of just 22 van de Beek has plenty to prove at the very top.

Arsenal are looking to sign a new midfielder this summer with uncertainty over the long-term future of Mesut Ozil, who has attracted the interest of Turkish sides Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

Unai Emery is hoping that van de Beek can provide the creative impetus required next season to challenge for the Premier League title.

The midfielder is most admired for his ability to get in to the box, as shown in the Champions League semi-final against Arsenal's bitter rivals Tottenham. It is understood that this is the game Arsenal's scouting team decided that van de Beek would be their primary transfer target this summer.
