AS Roma are reportedly planning an approach to sign midfielder Fred from Manchester United following the Brazilian's disappointing debut campaign in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old was the Red Devils marquee signing of the 2018 summer transfer window after the £53m switch from Shakhtar Donetsk but he struggled to make an impact with just one goal in 17 league appearances.

According to Il Romanista, new Giallorossi boss Paulo Fonseca is keen on pursuing the South America this summer after having previously worked with the midfielder at Shakhtar.

The report adds that the Serie A outfit are not in a position to discuss a permanent move but they are prepared to propose a two-year loan deal which may likewise enhance United's summer budget.

Aside from Fred, United's record signing Paul Pogba has also been linked with a potential move away from Old Trafford with reports emerging that Real Madrid are keen on landing him.

Pogba had been the subject of severe criticism from a section of the supporters towards the end of the season and there are suggestions that he may push for an exit rather than returning to pre-season with the team.
