Arsenal announce their first summer signing
Arsenal have announced their first summer signing with teenage forward Gabriel Martinelli joining them from Brazilian minnows Ituano.
The youngster had been on the Gunners radar for the past few weeks but the club were waiting for him to complete his 18th birthday before lodging an approach.
With him having done so earlier this month, it was only a formality for the move and the same has been announced officially with the teenager set to sign a long-term deal.
Arsenal have yet to secure a work permit for the teenager but the same should not prove a difficulty with the forward successfully applying for an Italian passport which he qualifies for through his father.
The north London giants are working on a limited £45m budget for the summer but that has not stalled their ambition of pursuing top-class players from sides around the world.
At present, they are negotiating deals for Wilfried Zaha and Kieran Tierney from Crystal Palace and Celtic respectively but are not close to finding the breakthrough for either.
