Arsenal make contact to sign Real Madrid defender?

Arsenal have emerged as one of the contenders to secure the signature of Real Madrid defender Marcelo during this summer's transfer window. 

The left-sided defender has been with Los Blancos for the past 12 years and during this period, he has made close to 500 appearances for the team across all competitions.

Despite this, his future remains doubtful beyond the summer following the recent arrival of Ferland Mendy from Lyon and Sport claims that he is free to part ways with the club.

The same outlet reveals that the Gunners have made contact with the left-back's representatives but they are set to competition from the likes of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.

Marcelo made just 23 appearances in the Spanish La Liga last season with young defender Sergio Reguilon getting the opportunity to impress under ex-boss Santiago Solari.

The Spaniard appears on the verge of joining Sevilla on loan for the forthcoming campaign but Marcelo may yet consider a fresh challenge with a starting role unlikely to be assured under Zinedine Zidane.
