West Ham battle with Valencia to sign Maxi Gomez
West Ham are hopeful that a deal can be reached to sign long-term target, Maxi Gomez, from Celta Vigo. It is understood that Valencia are also trying to sign the Uruguayan striker.
Maxi Gomez remains West Ham's priority transfer target this summer as a long-term replacement for Andy Carroll, who departed the Hammers on a free transfer at the end of last season.
Talented striker Maxi Gomez has been a revelation at Celta Vigo since his arrival from Defensor Sporting in his homeland and has since gone on to cement a place in Uruguay's full national team, scoring 2 goals in 12 games for his country. Last season Maxi returned an impressive 13 goals in 33 La Liga games and at just 22-years-old the Paysandu-born striker has plenty of time to develop.
Valencia however are confident that they can sidestep West Ham and have entered the 40 million euro transfer race to sign Maxi Gomez and will feel confident a deal can be reached with Celta as the club understands the striker would prefer to stay in Spain next season.
