Barella: one of Italy's best young talents

Italian international midfielder Nicolo Barella is one of the brightest young prospects in Serie A, currently playing for Cagliari in Serie A, but expected to soon move elsewhere. The highly rated youngster has already appeared 7 times for Italy's national team, and is expected to fill the gap left by Italian great Andrea Pirlo.

He is an intelligent midfielder with tons of creative ability, and is renowned in Italy for his workrate and for being able to start quick counter-attacks from his own half. At Cagliari, Barella forced his way in to the club's first team in 2014-15, when he was just 17-years-old and has since gone on to become a first-team regular for the side.

Barella has been compared by the Italian press to Steven Gerrard, a powerful midfielder with great stamina and ability to charge forward from defence towards the attacking end of the field. Even more exciting about Barella, is the fact he is so versatile. He plays in attacking midfield as well as a defensive/holding midfielder, he has also been known to play on the right-side of midfield, which is reportedly his own preferred position.

Even more exciting is the fact that Barella is a set-piece specialist and also has bags of confidence from the penalty spot, leaving many pundits to predict that he will one day become a mainstay of Italy's national side.

Numerous teams have expressed interest in the Cagliari player, but it is believed Inter Milan is his preferred next destination, with offers from other Serie A sides such as Roma already on the table.

Despite being Cagliari-born, Barella has ambitions to move to a bigger club in pursuit of domestic titles, so a move elsewhere is likely to follow shortly.
