Spurs face competition to sign Giovani Lo Celso

Spurs: still chasing Lo Celso

Tottenham have received a blow in their efforts to sign Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this summer, after receiving word that Atletico Madrid have entered the race to sign the Argentinian. Lo Celso is considered one of Europe's brightest young prospects and Atletico are ready to pay 75 million euros to acquire the player.

Lo Celso had been earmarked as a replacement signing for Atletico after a proposed deal to sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid fell through, with manager Diego Simeone ready to splash the cash on the former PSG player.

Spurs are said to be frustrated that their final offer of 67 million euros has already been trumped by Atletico and could exit the race to sign Lo Celso.

Real Betis have already signed a ready-made replacement for Lo Celso, bringing in French international Nabil Fekir from Lyon just last week for a 40 million euro transfer fee.

Spurs have already signed Jack Clarke from Leeds and Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon and have an estimated 75 million euros left to spend on new players.
