Frank Lampard praises 'machine' midfielder after Super Cup defeat
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has said that he was delighted with the performance of midfielder N'Golo Kante during the club's UEFA Super Cup defeat to Liverpool.
The Blues experienced a forgettable game at Old Trafford last weekend where they were brushed aside by a 4-0 scoreline by Manchester United after losing the plot in the final 30 minutes.
However, there was a massive improvement on the same during the European encounter against the Reds and Kante was undoubtedly the stand out performer from the centre of the park.
As such, he has received praise from all corners and Lampard added to the same by stating the importance of the World Cup winner to the west London giants.
"Kante is an amazing player, amazing character. He's a machine on the football field. He hasn't trained much, had a swollen ankle two days ago, but he was desperate to play and you saw what he gave to the team today," he told Reuters.
Kante was initially doubtful for the contest with another fresh knee injury concern, but he managed to recover in time to play through the entire game for the Blues at the Vodafone Arena in Istanbul.
Despite Kante's magnificent performance, the Blues were unfortunately on the losing end following a penalty shoot-out defeat after the scores were tied at 2-2 after added extra-time.
