Olivier Giroud sends message to Frank Lampard
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has insisted that he is not prepared to give up on a starting role with the Blues despite the emergence of Tammy Abraham this season.
Abraham has been regularly preferred ahead of Giroud to make the starting XI this term and the youngster has proved his worth with four goals in the Premier League.
As a result, it appears that the 21-year-old has firmly cemented his role upfront but Giroud has stressed that he will fight for a starting spot under manager Frank Lampard.
"Obviously not! I have goals in my head. I'm here to help the new generation, but beware, the retirement time has not come," the Frenchman was quoted as saying by RMC Sport.
Giroud has contributed just one goal for the Blues this season and that came during the UEFA Super Cup defeat at the hands of Liverpool. He was an unused substitute in the recent clash against Sheffield United which ended in a 2-2 draw.
