Chelsea manager drops injury boost ahead of Lille clash

Lampard says Kante could make injury comeback for Lille game

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that N'Golo Kante could return to the mix ahead of the Champions League group stage clash against Lille on Wednesday night.

The Frenchman returned from an ankle problem during the recent league defeat to Liverpool and he made an instant impact by scoring a wonderful solo goal in a 2-1 loss.

However, he picked up a minor hamstring injury in the lead up to the Brighton & Hove Albion clash and was therefore omitted from the matchday squad on Saturday.

Speaking in a press conference, Lampard has now revealed that Kante was not risked against Brighton due to his recent fitness concerns but he could make the midweek trip to Lille.

“He’s had a difficult pre-season – difficult for us but mainly for him – to get going, because of the break up of his pre-season with the injury he carried over from last year. So I wasn’t going to risk it today. He’s got a chance for Lille.” he told.

Chelsea have accumulated 11 points from their opening seven matches and they are currently positioned sixth on the table. They will be aiming for their first points in the Champions League when they face Lille in the midweek game on the road.
