Emerson's injury return date for Chelsea revealed

Chelsea are likely to welcome Emerson from a thigh injury when they face Ajax in the Champions League group stage later this month.

The Italian has been sidelined for more than four weeks with the injury concern but the Blues are hopeful of his comeback after the international break.

According to The Athletic, the likes of Andreas Christensen and N'Golo Kante are doubts for the Premier League clash against Newcastle United after picking up injuries during the international break.

It is added that Emerson is likewise sidelined for the Stamford Bridge clash but he could return to the mix for the midweek European game against Ajax on the road.

Emerson has been the preferred left-sided defender ahead of Marcos Alonso this term but the latter has benefited with regular minutes over the past month.

Still, there is the speculation that manager Frank Lampard is not satisfied with the options at hand and he may consider making a big-money move for Leicester City's Ben Chilwell, should the Blues overcome their transfer ban by January.
