Verratti signs fresh deal

Italian midfielder Marco Verratti has opted to extend his stay with Paris St Germain and signed a new deal until 2024. The defensive midfielder will earn a reported 200,000 euros per week as per the terms of his new contract and will disappoint the likes of Chelsea and Man City, both of whom are long-term admirers of the player.

The 26-year-old, who has been on the books at PSG since his arrival from his homeland in 2012, has been an important member of PSG's recent fortunes having been one of the first signings made by Qatar Sports Investment, who purchased the club back in 2011.

Verratti has played in 290 games for the club and is likely to go on to be one of the club's longest serving players if he sees out the remaining term of his new deal.

Last season Manchester United tabled a 40 million euro transfer bid for Verratti that was promptly rejected by the Ligue 1 Champions, with the club insisting Verratti is not for sale. Verratti made his debut for previous club Pescara in 2008.
