Merson says Chris Wilder should replace Unai Emery at Arsenal

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has said that Chris Wilder should be considered for the Gunners head coach role, should Unai Emery get sacked in the coming months.

Emery has faced immense criticism from the fans for the club's inconsistent performances this term and reports indicate that the Spaniard has a maximum of six games to save his job.

Amidst this, a number of high-profile candidates including Luis Enrique and Jose Mourinho have been linked with the club but Merson believes the Gunners should instead appoint Wilder, who has made a huge impact at Sheffield United.

"Chris Wilder has done a fantastic job at Sheffield United and deserves a crack at a really big job at some point," he told the Daily Star. “I watched them play Arsenal and there was only one team who knew what they were doing. Arsenal had no idea. That’s good coaching."

Wilder's men are currently ahead of the Gunners on the table on goal difference. In their recent meeting, they managed to get the better of the north London side by a slender 1-0 scoreline.

The Blades are presently possessing the second-best defence in the Premier League with just nine goals conceded this season. They are scheduled to host Manchester United following the international break.
