Arsenal are reportedly said to have made contact with former Valencia manager Marcelino regarding the permanent managerial role.

The north London side made the decision to sack Unai Emery from the head coach position last month and they have since stuck with Freddie Ljungberg in the interim role.

According to ESPN, the Capital outfit are expected to land a permanent manager by the New Year and they have already shortlisted possible targets for the job.

The same outlet claims that Marcelino, formerly of Valencia, arrived in London on Sunday and the Spaniard spoke to the Gunners regarding the vacancy.

Marcelino helped Valencia win the Copa del Rey in September but he was surprisingly sacked at the beginning of the season amid a dispute with the club's owner.

Aside from Marcelino, Thomas Tuchel of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta have also been linked with the Gunners and the latter has been earmarked as the favourite.
