AS Roma could hold the key to Olivier Giroud’s proposed move from Chelsea to Inter Milan. After reports on Sunday claimed that the French striker had agreed personal terms with the Italian giants, Monday’s Gazzetta dello Sport writes that the Nerazzurri must first sell before Giroud’s transfer can be completed.

The journal believes that AS Roma, having lost Nicolo Zaniolo to injury on Sunday evening against Juventus, is now looking to bring in winger Matteo Politano as his replacement. The 26-year-old has hardly figured in Antonio Conte’s first-team this season and the Corriere dello Sport states that Roma Sporting Director Gianluca Petrachi has already made contact with the player’s representatives over a possible switch to the capital.

Chelsea and Inter have reportedly reached an agreement which will see Giroud leave West London for Serie A in a deal worth £4.2M with the player signing an 18-month contract at the Nerazzurri. Politano has also been courted by AC Milan, Fiorentina and Napoli but having grown-up in the youth ranks at Roma, the Giallorossi remain in pole-position to land his signature which will open the way for Giroud’s departure from the Premier League.
