Barcelona appoint Quique Setien as new manager
According to The Guardian, Barcelona have appointed Quique Setien as their new manager in place of Ernesto Valverde.
The Catalans sacked the former Athletic Club gaffer in the wake of the Spanish Super Cup defeat against Atletico Madrid.
Former Barca player Xavi was widely tipped to take the reins at Nou Camp, but instead, he decided to stay at Al Sadd.
Setien has finally received the nod from the Blaugrana, with whom he had been previously linked with the manager job.
The ex-Betis gaffer has agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him in the charge until June 2022.
The 61-year-old was highly known for his attractive style of place during his time with Betis, helped them qualify for UEFA Europa League for two straight seasons.
One of the biggest achievements for the Spaniard includes the remarkable 4-3 win at Camp Nou last season, with Betis playing a brand of football quite synonymous with Barca. He also inspired his side to defeat Real Madrid in front of their home crowd.
Valverde’s sacking marks the first manager of Barca to be sacked midway through the season since Louis Van Gaal.
