Atletico Madrid eye ex-Tottenham boss as Simeone replacement
Atletico Madrid have reportedly identified Mauricio Pochettino as the replacement for Diego Simeone.
The report briefs that Rojiblancos are eyeing a summer move for ex-Tottenham boss should they break ties with Simeone. However, Pochettino tends to be favouring a move to Premier League, with Manchester United keeping close tabs on him.
Simeone has been quite inept this season, leading his side to 9 draws and 4 defeats in 22 La Liga outings. The Argentine's managerial prowess brought into question with a premature Copa del Rey exit at the hands of second division side Cultural Leonesa. Atletico haven’t won any of their last five games in all competitions.
Rojiblancos' Sporting Director Andre Bertha have now identified Simeone’s compatriot Pochettino as the potential successor citing his excellent track record.
The 47-year-old led Spurs to Champions League final last term, besides finishing fourth in the Premier League table.
However, it was downhill for Pochettino from the start of this season before Spurs eventually decided to part ways with him after five long years. Jose Mourinho has since assumed the managerial role at North London.
The ex-Espanyol boss also led Spurs to two second-place finishes in Premier League during his reign.
