Bayern Munich have reportedly joined the transfer race for Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, reveals Daily Mail.

The French defender is one of the most-wanted players in Europe at the moment, with clubs like Tottenham, Arsenal and Barcelona keeping close tabs on.

The Bavarians are now the latest entrant to show interest in the Leipzig centre-back, who reportedly holds a release clause worth £50m.

Bayern had the great chance to witness Upamecano in action as he was up against them last night. The French youngster once again proved to be solid in the defence as both Bayern and Leipzig held to a goalless draw.

The French U-21 star has played 17 games in German top flight this season, securing five clean sheets in the process.

Bayern's defence has been piled up with injuries, with players like Nick Sule and Lucas Hernandez missing most of the season. The latter one returned to the Bundesliga fixture last night.

Furthermore, Jerome Boateng also turns out to be lackadaisical this season and has been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena.

The Bavarians are looking to change the personnel in their defence this summer and cite Upamecano as a productive signing.
