Paul Merson slams Chelsea star after defeat to Manchester United
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes Chelsea won't remain in the top four for the rest of the season with Michy Batshuayi struggling to impress as the back-up striker.
The Belgian was handed with his first league start of the campaign against Manchester United on Monday night but he failed to catch the eye as he squandered a couple of good chances to find the net.
Ultimately, the Blues suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Red Devils with a couple of VAR decisions going against them and Merson believes Batshuayi is just not good enough to play for the club upfront.
"When you look at Chelsea, you’re not going to get into the top four with Michy Batshuayi up front. He’s not good enough," he told Sky Sports after the game.
Olivier Giroud replaced Batshuayi during the backend of the encounter and he found the net with a diving header. However, the goal was ruled out following a check for offside through the VAR.
Chelsea are now just one point ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur whom they face at the weekend. Giroud may get the nod for that game, suppose Tammy Abraham remains sidelined with his ankle injury.
