Victor Osimhen reveals Arsenal transfer interest
Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has revealed that Arsenal were in the running to sign him at the beginning of his professional career.
The 21-year-old has been in top form for Lille this term and he has contributed 18 goals from 38 appearances across all competitions.
As a result, Osimhen has been linked with a possible Premier League move and he has now revealed that the Gunners were in the running to sign him when he was in the Ultimate Strikers Academy.
"Arsenal was a good option but it wasn't the best at the time. I wanted to start playing as soon as I turned 18," he told The Independent.
"I wanted to go to a place where I had time to invest in my game and improve physically. Wolfsburg showed me that possibility."
Osimhen made the switch to Wolfsburg in January 2017 and he made only 16 appearances over the next one-and-a-half seasons.
He thereafter joined Charleroi on loan where he scored 20 goals last term and that contributed to Les Dogues opting to sign him in August 2019.
Osimhen is currently being monitored by the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur but Lille are unlikely to sell him on the cheap.
