Colombian legend Asprilla talks up Rodriguez move to England
Former Newcastle United and Colombia striker Faustino Asprilla has suggested that fellow countryman James Rodriguez should move to England if he is to make the next step up in his career. Rodriguez has not shown the flashes of brilliance displayed in the 2014 World Cup since his transfer to Real Madrid, and looks set to depart his current club when the transfer window reopens.
Disappointing loan spells with Bayern Munich have yet to catapult Rodriguez back to the top of the game, and it now appears that the forward will depart his club for a new challenge elsewhere.
Man Utd are amongst the teams desperate to sign the player, and they have assigned a 50 million euro transfer budget to secure Rodriguez's coveted signature.
Asprilla told reporters: "Manchester United would be a good place for James. It’s been a while since they have been winning trophies and they are thinking about strengthening the team for next season. They’ve got good players – like Juan Mata, who plays in a similar style to James, although he’s a little more dynamic and attacking but I think James could easily fit into that side.
"James needs to go where he will play, a club where the coach has expressly asked for him and wants him in his team. Not where he will be an impulse signing, bought on a whim by the president. With his talent, he could play anywhere."
