United tipped to land Cavani

Manchester United have reportedly emerged as serious favourites to sign Edinson Cavani when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of the season.

The Uruguayan was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in January but the Red Devils decided against making an approach with Les Parisiens wanting at least £16m in transfer fees.

Still, a number of ex-players including Robin van Persie have recommended the club to sign him and L'Equipe claims United are firmly in the race for the 33-year-old's services on a free transfer.

The same publication adds that the Mancunian giants have the financial means to be active in the transfer market this summer despite the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Cavani has endured a difficult season with Les Parisiens and he missed most of the first half of the campaign due to injuries. He has still bagged seven goals and three assists from 22 outings.

He is currently on a weekly wage package of around £360,000 and it remains to be seen whether he would be prepared to take a pay-cut when he makes the move to his next club.
