Mikel Arteta eyeing a new defensive midfielder
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen on signing a new defensive midfielder during the summer with Lucas Torreira fancied to head through the exit door.
The Gunners are facing financial difficulties due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic but they are still expected to make new purchases in the next transfer window.
According to Tuttosport, the north London giants may not have a substantial budget for the summer but they are still determined to recruit a new defensive midfielder.
Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira are presently the specialist options for the position but the latter has been fancied to return to the Italian top-flight with AC Milan.
The Gunner are likely to recoup around £25m from the Uruguayan's sale and they may utilise the funds to pursue a replacement. Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey remains the club's main target.
The Ghana international has yet to commit to a new contract with the Spanish outfit and his current deal has a release clause worth £43m which has caught the Gunners' attention.
