Chelsea extend contract of experienced star
Chelsea have reportedly decided to trigger the extension clause available in the contract of Argentine goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
The 38-year-old is currently in his third season with the west London outfit and he has made 31 appearances as the second-choice goalkeeper.
Earlier this year, it was suggested that the Argentine could be shown the exit door with the club aiming to purchase a young shot-stopper, who can compete with Kepa Arrizabalaga for the number one role.
However, that does not appear feasible with the tight financial situation arising from the coronavirus pandemic and The Telegraph reveals that the Blues have decided to extend Caballero's stay until next summer with a clause available to them.
Caballero could still head through the exit door during the next transfer window but the club are now in a position to command a nominal fee for his departure.
Meanwhile, Olivier Giroud, Pedro and Willian are some of the other Blues players whose contracts expire during the summer. It has been reported that the club have already renewed Giroud's deal until June 2021.
