Liverpool make breakthrough in contract talks with Dutch star
Liverpool have made the breakthrough in the contract talks with midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, a report from The Guardian reports.
The Netherlands international is currently approaching the final year of his Reds deal and that has recently spread speculation regarding his future.
The Dutchman has been linked with possible moves to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in recent months but The Guardian claims that he is unlikely to leave Anfield anytime soon.
Jurgen Klopp's side have been in regular contact with the player's representatives in recent weeks and it is reported that there have been positive talks in relation to a contract renewal.
The former Newcastle United man is now more likely to prolong his stay with the European champions rather than pursuing a fresh challenge in the next transfer window.
Wijnaldum has been a regular for the Reds in the centre of the park this term. He has made more than 35 appearances for the Merseyside giants, contributing five goals in the process.
