Arsenal boss explains Mesut Ozil's absence vs Manchester City
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that Mesut Ozil was omitted from the matchday squad to face Manchester City last night due to tactical reasons.
The Germany international featured in both of the club's friendlies against Charlton Athletic and Brentford but he failed to make the 20-man squad for the clash at the Etihad Stadium.
Following the club's 3-0 defeat, Arteta was asked the reason behind the German's absence and he simply stated that the decision was made based on the game, he told Sky Sports: "It was tactical."
Ozil has only 12 months remaining in his existing deal with the north London side and so far, the club's hierarchy have shown no desire of negotiating a new contract with him.
His latest exclusion has led to doubts whether he remains in the plans of Arteta. Still, he appears unlikely to leave the club this summer, given he is determined to honour the remaining length of his contract.
