Chelsea join the race to sign Dayot Upamecano
Chelsea are reportedly prepared to compete with Arsenal in the race to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig in the coming months.
The Frenchman has only 12 months remaining on his existing deal with Leipzig and the German club are expected to sanction his sale, unless he agrees to a contract extension.
The Gunners have been mentioned as one of the leading candidates to sign the central defender but The Athletic claims that they could face stiff competition from cross-town rivals Chelsea.
Frank Lampard's side are said to prioritise the signing of a new left-back this summer, but they are also open to the possibility of landing a central defender for next season.
Upamecano currently has a release clause of around £53m in his contract, but Leipzig could be compelled to accept a lower fee with his deal due to expire next summer.
The 21-year-old has made 35 appearances for the club across all competitions. Leipzig may want him to feature in their Champions League campaign in August before pursuing a fresh challenge.
