Chelsea to miss out on signing Bayern Munich star?

Chelsea are likely to miss out on the potential signing of David Alaba with the Austrian said to favour a move to the Spanish La Liga.

The Blues are on the search for a new left-sided defender and Alaba has recently emerged as a target with his Bayern deal expiring in 12 months' time.

Alaba has yet to show any intention of extending his stay with the German champions but The Mail claims that the Blues may still struggle to lure him to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Alaba, who can also play as a central defender or central midfielder, is understood to favour a move to Spain, suppose he parts ways with the Bundesliga holders.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have previously been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old and it is unclear whether they will revive their pursuit when the transfer window reopens.

Bayern are still in negotiations with Alaba over an extension but so far, the Austrian has been reluctant to sign the renewal as he is keen on a fresh challenge.
