Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacts to David de Gea's howler vs Chelsea
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has acknowledged that David de Gea should have done better during the club's 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final.
The Red Devils went into the game on the back of a 19-match unbeaten run, but their performance was pretty average as they were dominated by the Blues in terms of the chances created.
Frank Lampard's side took the lead right before the half-time interval through Olivier Giroud and they doubled their advantage right after the break following a howler from De Gea.
Mason Mount's shot should have been comfortably collected by the Spain international, but he instead made a mess of the situation as the ball went past his gloves into the back of the net.
A Harry Maguire own goal made it 3-0 in the Blues' favour in the 74th minute, but Bruno Fernandes was able to find a consolation strike from the penalty spot for United, five minutes from time.
Speaking after the game, Solskjaer acknowledged that De Gea should have saved the Blues' second goal, but the club can't ponder on the situation, now that the game is over.
"Obviously, everyone has to perform. Everyone has a chance to stake a claim in the team when they play. David knows he should have saved the second goal, that's over now and we have to look forward to Wednesday," he told via Football.London.
United are currently behind Leicester City for the fourth spot in the Premier League on the number of goals scored, but they can leapfrog them with at least a point in their game in hand over West Ham United on Wednesday.
