Man United were not keen on Gabriel

Manchester United were never in the running to sign Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille during the ongoing transfer window.

The Brazilian is currently on the cusp of joining Arsenal after undergoing a medical and agreeing to personal terms over a long-term deal.

Earlier this month, it was mentioned that the Red Devils had made a late move to sign Magalhaes ahead of the Gunners, but the centre-back was convinced by the project under Mikel Arteta.

However, according to Manchester Evening News, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side never made a serious attempt for the defender and their name was primarily used to push the Gunners into a quick deal.

Nevertheless, the Red Devils are keen on signing a new centre-back this summer with the trio of Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling expected to head for the exit door.

They recently made an opening bid of around £22.4m for Benoit Badiashile, but that was turned down by AS Monaco. The Principality outfit want at least £55m to part ways with the left-footed centre-back.
