Emiliano Martinez out of Arsenal squad to face Fulham
Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez won't feature in the matchday squad for the Premier League opener against Fulham this afternoon.
The 28-year-old impressed during the final weeks of the previous campaign after Bernd Leno was injured and his performances have made him a favourite among the fans.
However, he does not have the assurance of a starting spot in the Premier League with Leno back in the mix and Goal.com reports that he could be on the move after being excluded from the squad for the curtain-raiser.
Martinez has already turned down a new contract beyond June 2022, and he is currently the subject of a bidding war between Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa.
The north London giants are looking for at least £20m upfront for the longest-serving player in the squad and it remains to be seen which side is willing to meet the valuation first.
Arsenal's third-choice keeper Matt Macey is expected to feature on the bench this afternoon, but the 26-year-old has already revealed that he will leave the club before the transfer deadline.
Brentford's David Raya has been identified as the suitable replacement for Martinez, but the Championship side are adamant that he won't be sold, as things stand.
