Tottenham Hotspur to beat Manchester United to defender signing

Sergio Reguilon news

Reguilon close to Spurs move?

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly close to beating Manchester United in the race to sign Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid.

The left-back fared impressively for Sevilla on loan last term, but he recently returned to the Bernabeu as they had no option to buy.

Since then, both Spurs and United have been linked with his services, but The Athletic claims that the former are leading the race to sign him.

The north London side have yet to reach a transfer agreement with Los Blancos, but Jose Mourinho is confident of getting the deal over the line.

Spurs have made three signings in midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, goalkeeper Joe Hart and right-back Matt Doherty this summer.

Mourinho has publicly stated that he wants a new striker in the squad, but for now, the focus appears on signing a new left-back.

Reguilon bagged three goals and five assists from 38 appearances for Sevilla last term, where they went on to win another Europa League title.
