Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy suffers injury blow

Edouard Mendy has suffered a thigh injury

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy could be out of action for a while after picking up a thigh injury on international duty.

The Senegal international joined the Blues from Rennes earlier last month and he made his Premier League debut in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The 28-year-old recently linked up with his national team for the friendlies against Morocco and Mauritania, but he won't play any part after picking up an injury to his right thigh in training.

Mendy's injury is likely to be assessed over the coming days, but reports claim that he could be sidelined for at least three to four weeks which could come as a blow for Frank Lampard's side.

The Blues have Kepa Arrizabalaga as the back-up goalkeeper, but the Spaniard has been largely inconsistent with his performances and has already made a couple of blunders this term.

Chelsea have made a mixed beginning to the new Premier League season and they have accumulated only seven points from their opening four games. They are currently placed seventh in the standings.
