Manchester United reportedly made a late attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund left-back Nico Schulz on a season-long loan.

The Red Devils were widely fancied to sign Jadon Sanchez this summer, but a deal never happened after they refused to meet Dortmund's £108m price tag.

According to ESPN, the Mancunian giants made contact with the German outfit on deadline day with the aim of signing Schulz on a temporary basis.

However, their £1m loan offer was deemed too low and the proposal was swiftly rejected by Dortmund, who were baffled by the negotiations tactics.

United signed five players during the international transfer window. Donny van de Beek was their only purchase until the frantic activity on deadline day.

They signed left-back Alex Telles, striker Edinson Cavani and two young wingers in the form of Facundo Pellistri and Amad Traore.

Traore will only join the club at the turn of the year due to work permit and passport issues which need to be resolved.
