Chelsea boss confirms Mendy and Silva won't face Southampton
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and defender Thiago Silva won't face Southampton in the Premier League this weekend.
Mendy sustained a thigh injury while training with the Senegal national team last week and it appears that he has not recovered in time to make his third appearance in the Blues shirt.
Meanwhile, Silva is also expected to miss the encounter after the long travel from Brazil. He was in action for Selecao in their World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.
"Mendy won’t be fit for this game but we hope he won’t be out for too long. Thiago Silva is not in the squad. He’s not unfit but he’s not ready to play in the weekend’s game due to the travelling he’s done," Lampard told.
Chelsea have picked up seven points from their opening four Premier League matches. They have the opportunity to register back-to-back league wins when the Saints visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
