Bayern made attempt to sign Hudson-Odoi

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed that the club were looking at the possibility of signing Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea this summer.

The Bavarian giants recruited Leroy Sane from Manchester City earlier in July, but manager Hansi Flick was still keen on landing another winger with the departures of Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho after their loan stints.

Hudson-Odoi was heavily linked with a move during the closing stages of the transfer window, but their proposal to sign him on loan with the option to buy for £70m was rejected by the Blues.

In a recent interview with Bild, Salihamidzic confirmed the failed approach for the England international, he told: "There are transfers that come to the point where you have to say: 'We have to leave this immediately'.

"It is all the more important that one thinks about alternatives or alternative paths right from the start. We negotiated with Chelsea but there was no agreement. That happens."

After failing in their attempt to sign Hudson-Odoi, Bayern turned their attention to former winger Douglas Costa. They managed to re-sign him on loan from Juventus on deadline day.

Costa should act as the fourth-choice winger in the squad. Sane, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman are likely to be preferred ahead of him in the pecking order.
