Liverpool have received a boost in signing Schalke 04 defender Ozan Kabak during the January transfer window.

The Reds are expected to sign a new centre-back at the turn of the year after the serious knee injury to Virgil van Dijk.

Brighton's Ben White has been mentioned as the club's prime target, but the £50m price tag could put them off from making an offer.

Meanwhile, Kabak is reported to be the alternative option and Sport Media Set reports that he could be available for a reduced fee in January.

Jurgen Klopp's side were keen on signing the Turkey international during the summer, but they were reluctant to meet Schalke's £40m asking price.

The German outfit have made a dreadful start to the current season which sees them with just one point after four matches.

Their hierarchy are obviously concerned that could hamper the valuations of their players and could be prepared to sell Kabak for just £27m this winter.
