Chelsea to sign German defender in January?

Chelsea want Matthias Ginter

Chelsea may make a fresh attempt to sign Matthias Ginter from Borussia Monchengladbach when the transfer window reopens in January.

The German was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the summer before the Blues made the decision to sign Thiago Silva to bolster the central defensive ranks.

The west London side started the campaign in a relatively slow fashion with errors at the back and they have sorted themselves out recently with four clean sheets in a row.

Still, it is reported that Frank Lampard wants reinforcement at the heart of the defence and the Blues could return for Ginter when the transfer window reopens in a couple of months' time.

Ginter has firmly established himself as a regular for club and country over the past year and he was recently part of Monchengladbach's 2-2 draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Silva and Kurt Zouma have formed a superb central partnership for the Blues, but it may only be a short-term solution with the former already 36 and entering the last phase of his career.
