Liverpool star offered new long-term contract
Liverpool have reportedly placed a contract offer on the table for midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Netherlands international has been a key player for the Reds over the past four years, but his future is uncertain with his contract expiring next summer.
According to ESPN, the Reds hierarchy are eager to keep hold of the Dutchman and they have made a fresh contract offer which includes a hike on his current salary.
So far, the 30-year-old has yet to agree to a renewal and he could be the subject of interest from overseas clubs in January in case the stand-off continues till then.
Wijnaldum will be free to negotiate a pre-contract with a foreign team in January. Barcelona are deemed by many as the leading candidates to sign him on a free transfer next summer.
Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has openly stated that he had Wijnaldum on his summer wishlist. Aside from Wijnaldum, Lyon's Memphis Depay has also been regularly linked with the Catalan giants.
