Tuchel appointed as new Chelsea manager

Chelsea have officially confirmed the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as their new head coach.

The west London started the season brightly and they were only two points behind the top of the table in November.

However, their form slumped thereafter with only seven points from the next eight games and that paved the way for the dismissal of Frank Lampard.

It was widely reported that Tuchel would be the successor and the same has been made official by the Blues earlier today.

"We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard's work and the legacy he created at Chelsea," Tuchel told the club's official website.

"At the same time I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football.

"I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family – it feels amazing!"

Tuchel took charge of the training session this evening and he is expected to be in the dugout against Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow.

The Blues are presently ninth in the league standings with 29 points, 11 adrift of Manchester United, who are top of the table.
