Liverpool almost signed Ismaila Sarr in January

Sarr's agent confirms Liverpool interest

Liverpool were interested in signing Watford forward Ismaila Sarr last month, but were eventually put off by the asking price.

The Reds had a quiet January transfer window until they signed Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak to strengthen the central defence on deadline day.

It has now been revealed that they were interested in Sarr and talks were at an advanced stage between the Reds and Watford.

However, the deal eventually fell through as the Merseyside outfit could not meet the £35m price tag for the attacker's services.

"With Liverpool, a few days ago, we were at the stage of signing the contract that would tie Liverpool to Ismaila Sarr," Sarr's agent told Pan African Football.

"Everything was sorted, the monthly wages and the length of the deal. I’d even asked Sadio Mane to find him an apartment.

"But it in the end, the English club weren’t able to put the €40m on the table to finalise the affair."

Sarr has been linked with a move away from the Hornets since they were relegated from the Premier League last season.

The Senegalese has still remained committed to the club and recently stated that he won't force through a departure.

Should the Hornets miss out on top-flight promotion, they may be tempted to accept a lesser fee for the forward this summer.
