Arsenal set to renew defender's contract
Arsenal are prepared to renew the contract of David Luiz for another season, a report from The Independent claims.
The Brazil international has made some high-profile defensive errors in the club's shirt since arriving from Chelsea last season.
Still, manager Mikel Arteta has kept faith in him and he has quite often been the central defensive partner alongside Rob Holding.
According to The Independent, the centre-back has a good relationship with the players on and off the playing field.
He is a highly respected figure in the dressing room and the club are looking to extend his contract for another 12 months until June 2022.
The Gunners released the likes of Sokratis, Shkodran Mustafi and Mesut Ozil in January in order to reduce some of the wage bill.
Luiz's current deal expires in over four months' time but Arteta is keen on keeping hold of him for another year at least.
The 33-year-old recently played through the entire 90 minutes of the Gunners' 4-2 Premier League win over Leeds United at home.
