Manchester United have been handed a potential boost in signing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane this summer.

The Frenchman has been with Los Blancos for the past decade where he has accumulated 356 appearances across all competitions.

He is currently an undisputed starter in the central defence when fit, but his future remains uncertain due to his contract situation.

His existing deal expires in less than 15 months' and so far, he has not been convinced to put pen-to-paper on another extension.

Los Blancos have recently agreed a pre-contract deal to sign Bayern Munich's David Alaba, and his arrival could lead to Varane's exit.

Aside from Varane, the club have failed to negotiate a renewal with captain Sergio Ramos. He could leave for free when his contract expires in June.

Varane is reportedly valued at £60m by Los Blancos, and United are reportedly among the clubs keeping tabs on him.

The Red Devils are long-term admirers of the Frenchman, and want him to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence.
