Chelsea to beat Manchester United to midfielder signing?

Chelsea are reportedly looking to beat Manchester United to the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

The Blues recently expressed an interest in the Spaniard, and they are now in negotiations with Atletico to land his signature.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the west London giants have proposed to sign him on loan with an option to buy next summer.

United are long-term admirers of the Spain international, but they are yet to make an official bid to land his services.

There are reports suggesting that they need to offload at least one midfielder, but it appears unlikely to happen at the moment.

Chelsea are also loaded with midfield options, but they are likely to sanction several departures before the transfer deadline.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is on his way to AC Milan on loan with a buy option. Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be sold.

Meanwhile, the Blues are likely to terminate the contract of Danny Drinkwater. His current deal expires in 10 months' time.
