Manchester United failed with deadline day bid for right-back
Manchester United reportedly failed with an approach to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid on deadline day.
The Red Devils were eager to bring in a new right-back this summer to provide competition to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
However, they were unsuccessful in doing so. That paved the way for Diogo Dalot to stay beyond the transfer window.
According to Sport1, United had their sights on sealing Trippier's signature, but they were far off from meeting the valuation.
The club were prepared to pay £18m for the ex-Tottenham man, but Atletico were holding out for at least £28m.
Trippier was also linked with Arsenal last month, but they ended up signing Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna.
Tomiyasu's arrival was sealed on deadline day. The Gunners reportedly paid around £17m up front for him.
The deal could rise to £19.5m with performance-based add-ons included.
Trippier has less than two years left on his contract, and United could revisit their interest at the turn of the year.
