Lingard rejected West Ham return

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard rejected a permanent move to West Ham United this summer, 90min claims.

The 28-year-old was impressive with the Hammers on loan earlier this year, bagging nine goals and five assists from 16 games.

He was heavily tipped to rejoin them during the summer transfer window, but the Hammers ended up signing Nikola Vlasic.

It is now reported that Lingard did not want to rejoin them and told the decision personally to joint-chairman David Sullivan.

This led to a change in the Hammers' transfer strategy. They ended up signing Vlasic from CSKA Moscow for an initial £25 million.

Lingard has less than 10 months remaining on his existing deal with the Red Devils, but talks are planned over a short-term renewal.

He is prepared to fight it out with the Red Devils despite the fact that he has no assurances of regular playing time this season.

Lingard faces stiff competition from Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba for the wide attacking roles.
