Manchester United could reportedly cool their interest in signing West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

The Red Devils have been regularly linked with the England international, and it was recently claimed that they could prioritise his transfer.

However, according to ESPN, the hierarchy have doubts over his ability to make the team better ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Rice has built his reputation in the Premier League, but United are reluctant to meet the reported £80m price for his services next summer.

Instead, they are eyeing alternative options from overseas. The board believe that they can sign a better player from abroad for a reasonable fee.

Rice has three years left on his existing deal with the Hammers. The east London outfit have the option to extend his stay for another 12 months.

The 22-year-old is also on the radar of Manchester City as they eye a replacement for Fernandinho, who could retire next summer.

Rice's former club Chelsea have also been linked with his services, but a move may depend on their final decision over Saul Niguez.

The Spain international has been far from convincing since his loan move from Atletico, but he still has plenty of time on his hands.
