Manchester City favourites to sign Uruguayan striker
Manchester City are reportedly leading Manchester United and Chelsea in the pursuit of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.
The Uruguay international was on the radar of Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, but Benfica won the race to sign him from Almeria.
He has since been a consistent performer for the Portuguese giants, bagging 20 goals and 12 assists from 51 games across all competitions.
According to The Daily Star, the Cityzens are keeping a close eye on the marksman's progress with a view to a future move.
They have a good relationship with Benfica, having previously signed goalkeeper Ederson and defender Ruben Dias from them.
There is a £120m buy-out clause on the striker's contract, but City are hopeful of landing him for around £70m when Benfica opt to sell.
Nunez underwent a knee surgery earlier this summer. He has returned in fine form, recently scoring a brace against Barcelona in Europe.
Nunez's progress has also caught the eye of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, but City are deemed front-runners to sign him.
