Manchester United are keen on landing the signature of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips next summer.

The Red Devils will prioritise a new defensive midfielder ahead of next season, and Phillips has been identified as the prime target.

However, a deal may not be straightforward for the Mancunian giants due to their rivalry with Leeds United from the past.

Leeds are aware of the interest in the 25-year-old, and they are already planning talks to extend his contract expiring in June 2024.

Phillips has not ruled out the prospect of penning a renewal, but he may demand a release clause to be inserted into the deal.

It is reported that a buy-out clause of around £60m could be included, and the Red Devils will have to meet the valuation to buy him.

United were previously linked with West Ham United's Declan Rice, but they have been put off by the reported price tag.

Rice's deal expires in the summer of 2024, but there is a 12-month option. The Hammers want at least £90m to sanction his sale.
