Ronaldo misses crucial penalty

Cristiano Ronaldo showed he is human after all as he missed an early penalty in a charged Champions League semi-final between Man Utd and Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Wednesday evening. All attentions will be turned to the second leg at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo - the one man you would have thought wouldn't miss - stepped up and side-footed it wide of Valdez's left post to the disbelief of the travelling United support.

The draw may well prove valuable though for the second leg against United, where Barca travel to Old Trafford still requiring one goal.

The missed penalty did wake up Barca a little, and the fans started to help the Catalan side push for a goal.

Deco's fired a free-kick which was comfortably saved by Edwin van der Sar, while an effort by Ronaldo at the other end curled harmlessly wide as the first half drew to a close.

Messi was unlucky seeing a shot deflected wide early in the second half, whilst Samuel Eto'o missed a great opportunity when some slick passing carved United open, but his shot hit the sidenetting.

Andres Iniesta then saw his theatrical attempts to win a penalty waved away by the referee.

Bojan Krkic and Thierry Henry both came off the bench for late cameos, but nothing as yet seems to be decided for the second leg tie.
